International delegates visit UNMC Centre of Excellence for Postharvest Biotechnology
Malaysia has officially been the first Asian nation to host the 7th International Postharvest Symposium. As a part of this prestigious symposium, The 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia Campus was proud to host delegates on a visit to the recently established Centre of Excellence for Postharvest Biotechnology (CEPB).
The CEPB is a new research centre at UNMC dedicated to conducting cutting edge research in the field of postharvest biology.
Losses of fresh fruits and vegetables account for almost 30% of the total volume of produced food in Southeast Asia, making the reduction of postharvest losses a priority in enhancing food security. As Malaysia works towards advancing the agricultural sector and increasing productivity by 40% by 2020, postharvest tools and technologies emerge as an essential field in achieving this goal sustainably.
Delegates had an opportunity to tour the facilities and discussions for future collaborations were discussed.
Pioneers and leading researchers in postharvest biology and phytochemistry from a range of international institutions visited the CEBP. Attendees included, Prof Emeritus Dr Adel Kader of the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ California, Davis, who was recently presented with an award by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and attendance from Autonomous 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Queretaro, Mexico was renowned Prof Dr Elhadi Yahia, editor of the recently published book ‘Postharvest Biology and Technology of Tropical and Sub-Tropical fruits’.
