Hackathon - Most Impactful Award
Our students Lo Wei Hong, Lew Ying Hui, Darrell Uding Senelus, Leong Shicheah and one student from Asia Pacific 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ Toong Chee Sheng joined a 3D printing theme hackathon, which was organised by Materialise Malaysia Sdn Bhd during the weekend of the 20th and 21st of February 2016. Much to our delight, they won the Most Impactful Award with the prize of a 3D printed trophy and an Apollo 3D printer sponsored by Designex3D. Their team was named as BrailleHub, based on their project which was a knowledge base website for educators of the visually impaired. The concept consists of a website that acts as a search engine that can translate the definition shown into Braille, a language of touch used by the visually impaired, alongside with a 3D model of the object searched. Both the Braille text and the 3D model could be printed out via 3D printing technology to enable the visually impaired to visualise objects.
“Overall it was a fun and exciting experience for all of us. Although we all seemed tired and “beaten up” as you could have seen in the picture, every second of it was worth it. A message to those who are interested in hackathons, don’t be afraid to participate, take it as a learning experience no matter you win or not. Enjoy the hackathon and surprises may happen!” from Lo Wei Hong.”
