Pump Priming: Luminophonics
The Luminophonics project in the School of Computer Science has recently received a Faculty of Science Pump Priming grant for the amount of RM4,500. The aim of this project is to develop novel solutions for the conversion of visual to auditory information. Through these solutions, blind and visually impaired users can interpret and learn about the visual environment via auditory information.
The project has so far focused greatly on the representation of shape and colour, on the production of sounds with different timbres, and on the maximisation of both the quantity and interpretability of converted information. Moving on, the project will focus on incorporating depth information and improving the quality of the generated soundscapes.
