Bridging the Gap Education Equity in Malaysia

About the module

Module convenor: Dr Too Wei Keong
Department: School of Education

Programme details

Educational inequity remains a pressing issue in Malaysia, requiring collaborative efforts to ensure inclusive and quality education for all. This module, in collaboration with Teach For Malaysia, is designed to explore the pressing issues of educational inequity within Malaysia, and empower students to understand the challenges of educational inequity and develop practical advocacy and leadership skills to address these issues.

Through interactive workshops, students will explore key concepts of equity, engage in community-focused strategies, and design impactful campaigns to promote change. Activities include discussions, group projects, and presentations, developing skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. For the assessment, students will explore a topic of their choice related to educational inequity, conduct research, present their own solutions based on their research, and have a group reflection regarding the module. The content is tailored to the Malaysian context, encouraging students to advocate for equitable education and promote greater activism among students into social issues within Malaysia. This module is open for up to 30 slots.
