The 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) is offering four scholarships to students for their first full year of study in the new School of Biomedical Sciences. Students in the new School will work alongside academics, scientists and healthcare professionals to discover, design and develop new treatments for a range of illnesses.

The BSc (Hons)Biomedical Sciences is a three-year undergraduate level degree that will commence teaching in September 2012.  Applications to join this course in September are now open.

According to Dr. Ting Kang Nee, Director of Studies at the new School, “Biomedical science is a vital part of  healthcare today, contributing ground-breaking research in new and alternative treatments for both old and new diseases.  For example, studies in this area have led to discoveries in stem-cell research, cancer treatments and degenerative diseases.”

The Biomedical Sciences degree will also equip students with skills and competencies that are important not only to employers in scientific fields but also in non-scientific fields such as finance, IT and management.   Dr. Ting also added that, "Graduates can also continue their studies to pursue a medical or research degree."

A formal ceremony to mark the launch of  the new School was hosted by Professor Ian Pashby, CEO & Provost of The 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia Campus and Professor Stephen Hill, Head of Biomedical Sciences at Nottingham, UK.

According to Professor Pashby, "There is an increasing interest amongst our students in medical-related disciplines including pharmacy, biosciences and biomedical sciences."

Professor Hill added that, "The new School at the Malaysia Campus will also benefit from strong teaching and research links with its' sister-school in the UK.

• drug discovery
• healthcare delivery systems
• clinical pharmacology specialised in pharmacovigilance

The School of Biomedical Sciences co-hosts the Rainforest (tropical) plants research group whose main goals are to set up a collaborative research network, discover, identify and develop useful plant materials for potential use in treating a number of diseases including cancer, infectious diseases and diabetes.
