DYMM Sultan Nazrin Shah was conferred with an honorary degree from The 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham at the graduation ceremony held on 14 July at the UK campus.

Son of the late Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, who was also an honorary graduate of The 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham, Sultan Nazrin became the Sultan of Perak on 29 May 2014 following the demise of his late father.

“Sultan Nazrin is an eminently worthy candidate who is known as an intellectual leader in the areas of political economy, current affairs and Islamic finance,” said Professor Christine Ennew, CEO and Provost of The 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia Campus during the oration.

He is widely sought after as a speaker at conferences domestically and internationally where he talks with the authority of an accomplished researcher on the role of the constitutional monarchy in Malaysia, on education, on Islam, and on economic development.

Sultan Nazrin holds a doctorate in political economy and government and an MPA from Harvard 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@. He graduated with a bachelors degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Worcester College, Oxford.

In academia, his contribution includes his service as Chancellor of the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Malaya and he has also contributed widely to the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@’s Asia Europe Institute, attending conferences and giving public lectures on a range of topical issues.

Sultan Nazrin’s contributions are not restricted to the intellectual. He has a long history of engagement and support for sporting activity. He was the first President of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation, President of the Malaysian Hockey Federation and President of the Perak Amateur Football Association. He is also the Chairman of Yayasan Hoki Malaysia, a scholarship fund for talented hockey players from 1992 to 2005.

He is the Chairman of the ‘MERDEKA AWARD’ Board of Trustees and Honorary Fellow of Worcester College, Oxford, and Magdalene College, Cambridge. He is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.
