The league table, published on 5 September 2017 shows that Nottingham has maintained its position of 147th place, appearing among the world’s elite institutions.

Nottingham also climbs one place to 21st in the UK, moving up a rank from 22nd last year.

Nottingham’s consistent result is a reflection of the ground-breaking research, student and academic talent, and world-class teaching it continues to deliver.

This achievement also comes amid a climate of uncertainty from the risk Brexit may pose to the global performance of the UK’s leading universities and challenges European institutions are facing from Asia. Even though the US continues to dominate the rankings, Chinese universities are rapidly climbing year-on-year.

In this 14th annual edition of the Times Higher Education’s World 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ Rankings, the UK is home to the worlds’ top two universities for the first time in the 13-year history of the table, with the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Oxford holding onto the number one spot while the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Cambridge has jumped from fourth to second.

Despite signs that Asia is starting to threaten the position of some of Europe’s leading institutions, Phil Baty, Editorial Director, Global Rankings, THE, said: “Europe is one of the leading regions in the THE World Rankings and is now home to more than half of the top-200 spots (101 compared to 99 last year). Europe will need to work hard to ensure in can sustain its performance in future years.”
