The National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia recently collaborated with the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) to produce an awareness video on chemical security, especially for laboratories.

This initiative was led by Associate Professor Kasturi Muthoosamy, Director of Nanotechnology 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ Group from 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia’s (UNM) Faculty of Science and Engineering (FOSE) to produce an awareness video on chemical security, especially for laboratories.

“Chemical safety is commonly heard of which protects human from chemicals, whereas chemical security is often unheard which protects the chemicals from human with malicious act, such as terrorism. The pioneering video is the first in Malaysia and the latest, globally. The video will be used for various chemical security awareness campaigns locally and internationally, with several relevant international organisations already promoting it,” Dr Kasturi said.

The video highlights the importance of chemical safety and security management in mitigating any untoward incidents in the laboratory. The video also emphasises chemical security and how to keep it safe so that it is not used deliberately to harm before talking about the 8 Integrated Pillars of Chemical Security.

The video was filmed at UNM, with the involvement of our very staff and students including the Dean of FOSE, Professor Andy Chan as one of the cast members and Director of Strategy and Business Transformation, Kylie Colvin as the narrator.

“NACWC and UNM hopes that the awareness on chemical security will reach as many people as possible and together they hope to foster a socially responsible citizens,” Dr Kasturi explains
