Advancing Sustainability: Empowering Communities Through the UCSE Grant Programme

On 23rd November 2024, the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia’s (UNM) Enactus Club was awarded RM40,000 through the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ Community Social Enterprise (UCSE) grant programme, an initiative launched by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).
The grant was presented by the Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Seri Dr Zambry bin Abdul Kadir, to representatives of the Enactus Club, including Koo Jian Yuan, Celeste Ritchell Low Ken Nee, Celine Ling Jia Ying, Christine Yee Chai Shing, as well as the Senior Students’ Association Officer Divaghar Voothayakumar. This award highlights the club’s dedication to sustainability through Project EcoNow, which is aimed at raising awareness and educating the community about recycling practices within and beyond the UNM campus. The project also consists of the launch of EcoScent, a high-quality scented candle made from used cooking oil sourced from households and eateries. The revenue derived from its sales is reinvested into future sustainability initiatives, supporting a circular economy while fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
The UCSE grant scheme saw participation from 32 educational institutions across Malaysia, including 20 public universities, nine private universities, and three premier polytechnic institutions. Each recipient institution was recognised for its innovative contributions to the community and social enterprise as a whole.
The Enactus Club’s accomplishment serves as a testament to UNM’s commitment to sustainability and its role as a leader in cultivating environmental habits among students. The university continues to support initiatives that inspire meaningful change and align with global sustainability goals.
