International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent - Partnership Intern

Description:
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) was founded in 1919 in Paris in the aftermath of World War I. The war had shown a need for close cooperation between Red Cross Societies, which, through their humanitarian activities on behalf of prisoners of war and combatants, had attracted millions of volunteers and built a large body of expertise. A devastated Europe could not afford to lose such a resource. 

Position Background
The IFRC Asia Pacific regional office has developed relations with a number of major international and regional organisations active in the humanitarian field. The internship is established to support the IFRC Partnerships and Resource Development team to establish and develop sustainable partnerships with relevant donors, with particular focus on resource management, accountability and relationship development for humanitarian and development programmes. The duration of the internship will be three (3) to six (6)-months.  

Note:
 This internship is aimed at School of Politics, History and International Relations (PHIR) third year and PGT students.

Key activities of the Partnership Intern

  • Contribute in maintaining and increasing the confidence of partners in the IFRC including the management and reporting of key income streams, maintaining quality relationships with donors, understanding on-going trends in resource mobilisation, and identifying associated challenges and opportunities in Asia Pacific
  • Support timely and effective coordination of the AP Region’s resource mobilisation function in emergencies and disasters
  • Support the oversight on financial & risk monitoring and reporting for the resource development function
  • Apply IFRC resource development processes and procedures for emergencies and development programmes in Asia Pacific
  • Support the development and implementation of a proactive Grants Management mechanism

Position arrangements

  • The intern will be based in the Asia Pacific Regional office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and also has the option of being home based if preferred. 
  • It is suggested that the intern should be working towards an advanced academic qualification international relations, development or a related field, with interest for becoming familiar with management systems and relationship management. 

Person Specifications for the Partnerships Intern

Qualifications

  • Working towards a qualification in international relations, development or a related field.

Experience

  • Understanding of international humanitarian and development landscape, actors and interactions between partners engaged in assisting vulnerable communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the international humanitarian and/or development sector
  • Experience in advocacy and influence efforts with strong research, relationships and reporting skills 
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and data base management 
  • Experience with networking and communicating with different stakeholders such as government, Red Cross/Red Crescent, UN, NGOs and other organisations

Skills/knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of international humanitarian and development system
  • Excellent professional communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • Good computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications 
  • Ability to use own initiative and problem-solving skills 
  • Fluent spoken and written English
