Twelve students from the Undergraduate, Masters and Doctorate Degree programmes of the School of Education, 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia, competed at the recent 8th MELTA International 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ Conference (MIRCELE). Several first, second and third year BA and BEd TESOL students of the school attended MIRCELE as well. MIRCELE was held on 1st December 2018, at the International Islamic 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ Malaysia.

Presenters at this conference were competing for Excellence in 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ awards in five categories, namely

(i) Teacher Trainers/Academics, 
(ii) Teachers,
(iii) PhD,
(iv) Masters and
(iv) Teacher Trainees/Undergraduates.

All presenters were judged by a panel of experts from local and international universities. The conference consisted of presenters from 12 countries including Australia, Indonesia, Oman, Hong Kong, Iran, Vietnam and so forth. The School of Education delegates were competing with international presenters from universities worldwide in three categories: 

(i) PhD,
(ii) Masters and
(iii) Teacher Trainees/Undergraduate.

Delegates from the School of Education brought glory to both the School and the university by winning several awards. For the Masters category, Chee Zia Wei, from MPhil programme, and Zhang Xiaomei, from MA TESOL respectively won the Silver and Bronze medals. For the PhD category, Priyadharishiny Rajeindram won the Bronze medal. Bernard Cheah Zhi Yang was shortlisted for the final round for the made it to the final round Teacher Trainees/Undergraduate category.

The winners are a credit to the School and an inspiration to all School of Education students. It is through such achievements that the skill, high expectation and commitment of the staff and students at the School of Education are clearly reflected. The winners are true ambassadors for both the School and the university.

The conference was an initiative of the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (MELTA) that supports the Ministry of Education’s vision for Malaysia to become a centre of excellence for higher education. It serves as a platform for research knowledge and skills exchange in fields related to English Language Education.
