UNMC Assistant Professor presents on Sino-Palestinian relations
Assistant Professor Guy Burton presented a paper entitled How do Palestinians perceive China’s rise? at a workshop organised by the China Policy Institute (CPI) at Nottingham 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ in the UK and Durham 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@.
The one day workshop, which took place on 5 May, was intended to examine China’s strategic interests in the Middle East, especially in the wake of Beijing’s establishment of its ‘One Belt, One Road’ and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank projects.
Dr Burton was one of seven panellists invited to give a presentation at the workshop. His paper drew on polling data regarding Palestinian opinion of China and fieldwork he carried out while in Jerusalem and Ramallah during summer 2015. The research was part of a wider project that Dr Burton has been working on, concerning the role and impact of emerging powers (i.e. the BRICS countries) on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
A version of the paper Dr Burton presented is available as a working paper by the CPI.
Following the workshop Dr Burton is revising the paper for publication as a chapter in a book based on the workshop. This should be available next year.
