MSc Developmental Disorders 2022
The School of Psychology is offering a new master's degree, the Master of Science (MSc) in Developmental Disorders, starting September 2022.
The MSc in Developmental Disorders aims to:
- provide advanced theoretical knowledge of the psychological aspects of developmental disorders
- develop students' expertise in cutting-edge research methods to investigate the psychological aspects of developmental disorders
- develop students' practical knowledge on aspects of diagnosis, assessments, and interventions (therapeutic or educational) designed for developmental disorders
This postgraduate programme is aimed at students interested in developmental psychology, especially:
- students seeking foundational knowledge and research training for professional qualification
- students who want to pursue a career in research in educational and clinical psychology
- professionals in clinical and educational fields who want to enhance their knowledge in developmental disorders and research skills
The programme will run for three academic semesters, comprising two semesters of taught modules and one semester of a self-initiated empirical research project. The course offers a variety of teaching methods through workshops, lectures, seminars, and research supervision, as well as a focus on coursework assessments over exams. The taught modules include:
- Neurodevelopmental Disorders
- Childhood Clinical and Behavioural Disorders
- Developmental Disorders in Context
- Psychological Assessment
- Advanced Methods in Psychology
- Professional Skills
We require applicants who wish to study with us to possess a first degree in psychology or a related subject with upper second (2.1) or equivalent. A degree obtained at lower second or equivalent (2.2) may be considered with work experience or other supporting factors. Applicants are also expected to have some prior experience in quantitative methods of research.
