Tuanku Zara Nottingham's royal alumna
Tuanku Zara, who has a first class degree in chemical engineering from Nottingham is the grandniece of Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Tuanku Abdul Rahman is one of the most significant individuals in the history of Malaysia, responsible for brokering independence for the country.
Tuanku Zara Salim became a member of the State of Perak’s royal family when she married the distinguished His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah in 2007, notable among conservationists for establishing the pristine Royal Belum State Park.
Her Royal Highness and Sultan Nazrin are blessed with prince, Raja Azlan Muzzaffar Shah, and princess, Raja Nazira Safya.
Since her return from Britain after completing her education, the beautiful Tuanku Zara has contributed to the hydrocarbon industry through the national petroleum company Petronas.
Tuanku Zara’s achievements have been acknowleged in a number of ways. In 2007, Tuanku Zara was honoured with a purple hybrid orchid named after her, the ‘Dendrobium Tuanku Zara Salim’, to mark her visit to the 7th International Orchid Festival. On 1 January 2012, Her Royal Highness was proclaimed the Chancellor of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris in the State of Perak.
